Introduction to a Cat Lover

Hello Everyone!

My name is Emma and I am a sophomore majoring in Supply Chain Management! I was born in Tulsa, (Sooner born and sooner bred), but have lived in the Dallas area for about 8 years! I graduated from Allen High School in Allen, TX.
As you can tell from my post title, I love all things cats! Blankets, pajamas, socks, stationary, pictures, coffee mugs, most of mine had cats on them. I have one cat at home in Dallas. Her name is Kiska and she is a 12 year old Siberian, and here in Norman I have a black kitty named Nikita and she is 2 years old. They are my babies and I love them so much. I know what you're thinking... But I'm not ACTUALLY a crazy cat lady, not yet anyway.

In addition to loving kitties, I spent most of my life as a cheerleader. As soon as I could walk I was flipping, and carried that all the way through high school at an elite level competitively as well as school cheer. My freshman year at OU I was also a cheerleader! I decided to not do it this year because I thought it was best for me to be able to focus all my attention on school and my sorority! I went to the world championship for all of cheer a total of 5 times (09', 11', 12', 13', 14'). In those 5 years my teams placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd!

  2. Hey Emma! I liked your introduction a lot. Cats are definitely a greater source of joy in this world, of that there is no doubt. I grew up in your area! I have had orchestra competitions at your highschool; what a great school to have had the opportunity to attend.

Cheering is difficult, good for you for keeping up with it into your college career! One of my best friends was an OU cheerleader, and it is always so interesting to hear about because it is a life I never experienced. Your pictures look great.

And remember, there is NOTHING wrong with being a crazy cat lady!! :)

  3. Hi EMMA,

I really liked your post and how you love cats. I love cats too! I have a kitten that looks just like yours and his name is Loki. Also I think its awesome you did cheer. That takes a lot of time and skill to be able to do. I don't think I could ever done that sport! Also I went to Marcus High School which is around the Dallas area as well.

  4. As you have already figured out from the cats in the announcements, I am a fan of the cat world also, Emma! My husband and I have two cats, kind of a his-and-hers arrangement: a boy tuxedo who is more my husband's cat, and a girl grey-and-white cat who is more my cat (she is a fluffy girl like your Kiska). They are both strays we found, so we're not sure how old they are, but they are both young and playful... except they don't like to play with each other, unfortunately. But that's okay: the boy likes to be inside and the girl likes to be outside, and so tranquility reigns... most of the time.

And how great that you have all these memories (and amazing photos!) from your days of cheerleading while you are moving on to a new phase of your life. Are you interested in yoga? I am sure you would be so good at that with all your cheerleading limberness; if you are interested in learning about yoga as part of this class, that is a cool thing you can do. Some of the famous poses are named after characters you will meet in the reading for the class, like the great eagle-god Garuda: Garudasana ... and here is Garuda. He is one of the vehicles of the gods, the mount of Vishnu... and you will be meeting Vishnu's avatar Rama in the reading for this week, so it's all connected! Enjoy!

  5. Hi Emma,

Wow, you seem so talented! I actually have quite a few friends still doing OU cheerleading, and I am sure you know them. I can only imagine how hard it is to balance school, a sorority, and cheerleading! Sometimes, we have to make decisions in our lives that are not necessarily what we want, but what we need to do for ourselves. I, myself, am a dog lover but how cute that you even have a cat here in Norman! I am sure they aren't as nearly as hard to take care of as dogs.

  6. Emma,

I really like the picture of your cat, Nikita she seems so sweet and welcoming. The pictures you posted about your cheerleading career made me miss it a lot. I tumbled in middle school and cheered in high school; I would give anything to be able to do it again. I did both school cheer and competitive. I was on my gym's senior level five squad. I understand the time commitment and the amount of energy it takes for cheer. I never went to Worlds, but that must of have been a great experience, especially the times you won a championship.

  7. Hey Emma!
Nice to meet you! Its awesome that you went to Allen High School, my sister-in-law use to be a coach there! It is so cool that you were an OU cheerleader! What was your favorite part of watching the games from the field? Its great that you were able to balance both cheer and school! I look forward to reading your stories this semester and I really hope they involve your love of cats!

  8. Hello Emma!
I love that you love cats! I love cat everything too! My current favorite thing for cats is space cats, you should check it out you might like it too! 9. Hey Emma! First of all, your cats are so adorable and seem super lovable! It's awesome that you've been cheering essentially your entire life and that you've been to the world championships so many times. That takes a lot of dedication which is so great. Good luck with the rest of your semester and I'm looking forward to reading your stories!

  10. Hi Emma,

Your intro is interesting and I like the photo of your cat (even though I am not a cat person at all).It sounds like you really had a great time being involved in cheer and the fact that you decided not to do it this year, must have been really tough. I know what it feels like to give up something that you really love.

    Good luck with your studies!

  11. Emma, your cats are so cute! I have a cat at home, her name is Furry but I call her Kitty, that looks exactly like her. All black with yellows eyes! She was born on Friday October 13th, so she's kind of a Halloween cat. That is a really big decision that you did not continue cheer! I did something similar with choir in high school for my senior year (I was in 5 AP classes and choir took a lot of time). Thanks for sharing!

  12. Emma, it is great to have meet you. I love that you are a not so crazy cat lady, my wife and I have a cat ourselves named Nala, and I call my wife a crazy cat lady a lot. I have had some friends on the cheer team over the years, so we probably know quite a few of the same people. I hope that you are enjoying your major and I was wondering what you were not wanting to go into once you graduated? Thanks for sharing.

  13. Hi, Emma! I think you’re the first other sophomore student I’ve come across in the class so far. So hello! I have 3 family members who have or will graduate from Allen High, so I thought it was cool that you graduated there too!! Also, your cats are absolutely adorable, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong about whether or not you’re a “crazy” cat lady. You do you :)

  14. Hey Emma it is nice to meet you. I actually graduated from Lovejoy High School so we grew up relatively close! Your cats are extremely cute. I am more of a dog person but I think cats are great too. That is awesome that you are so involved with cheerleading. That seems like a very difficult sport. Good luck this semester!

  15. Hi Emma! Wow, I wish I could do flips and jumps like that! It’s great to see that you have so many passions including a love for cats. Haha. I think we all go through a phase where we want to switch it up a bit, and spend more time on focusing more on other things like school, and your sorority. I think it’s part of being a well-rounded person, and I think you’re doing a great job with that. It’s nice to meet you!

  16. Hi hi Emma!! I didn't know you were in this class - how cool! I also didn't know about all of your awesome championships... wow! Your kitties are so cute! I'm more of a dog gal, but that doesn't mean I can't appreciate sweet cats. :) I hope you're able to balance everything this year. I'm sorry that you've had to prioritize, but I'm super glad that you're still keeping up with Tri Delt! It's been my favorite thing about college! DLAM!!

  17. Pleased to meet you Emma! It's sad that you had to give up cheer for a year to focus on school and your sorority but there's a lot of sacrifices necessary to excel in college. Maybe one day you will be able to come back to it and pick up where you left off. I myself am also a cat lover that was "sooner born and sooner bred!" I had the privilege to grow up here in Norman so going to this university was a no brainer for me! Looking forward to reading some of your stories.

  18. Hello Emma! It’s nice to meet you! It’s hilarious to me how similar we are! I am majoring in Industrial engineering and I love cats too! Love the pictures! Your cats are cute! That is really awesome you cheered here at OU. I hope school is going well since that is what you are trying to focus on this year! Thanks for sharing and I look forward to reading more of your stories!

  19. Hey Emma, it is nice to meet you! I am also from Tulsa but have lived there my whole life. I hope to move to Dallas after graduation, every time i visit I like it more and more. That is awesome that you have been to the cheer world champions so many times and done so well. Your cats look super chill too, Nikita looks identical to our cat back in Tulsa. Nice to meet you!

  20. Hi Emma! I don't think I've met anybody with your major yet, so That's cool! I was also born in Tulsa, but lived there my whole life until I started going to OU. Dallas has always been a place that I would consider moving after graduation. And I always grew up with a few cats in my house in Tulsa, so I can appreciate Nikita haha.
